Mecklenburg's secret water wilderness
Directors: Christoph Hauschild, Almut Hauschild
Ancient forests and wild meadows surround clear turquoise lakes. Anyone who comes to the lake kingdom of the north for the first time in summer will experience a festival of colors and can observe the many water-loving animals and plants. A special jewel in the region lies a few kilometers east of the Müritz. The Feldberg lakes are an insider tip for every nature lover. What makes them so special? The Ice Age left behind particularly steep slopes made of Scandinavian boulders and deep water-filled channel lakes, piled up sand dunes and created countless watercourses. The lakes are strung together like pearls on a string. All three eagle species in Germany breed here. Otters and beavers have their kingdom on the original banks. A magical world opens up underwater. Sunrays dance through the waves in the crowns of fallen giant trees. Pike stand motionless, schools of small perch swim in front of his nose. And only in the cleanest lakes can you find one of the most unusual animals, the freshwater sponge, the “coral of the north”.
