John Murray is an Emmy-award winning documentary filmmaker. In the last 20 years, he has directed and produced over 100 films for the world’s leading broadcasters and won numerous national and international awards. These include a 2017 Grierson award – the UK’s top documentary prize for Wild Ireland – The Edge of the World and the highest honours in natural history film-making – Best of Festival three times in a row at the Wildscreen & Jackson Hole Festivals for Broken Tail and On a River in Ireland. Both films were also nominated for multiple Emmys with John’s own cinematography receiving Emmy nominations in 2015 & 2018. John made his very first film in 1991 chronicling the first Irish expedition to attempt an 8000 metre Himalayan peak and since then has made films on Everest, the North Pole, the South Pole, across Siberia and the Sahara amongst many other locations. Other career highlights include winning an Emmy for the cinema documentary The Farthest, which tells the story of the 1977 Voyager space mission, and Here Was Cuba, the Grierson nominated documentary on the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis for PBS and Channel 4.
